Since open in 2007 our welcome sign has greeted thousands of visitors. It was time for an upgrade.

Profile view of the original Western Antique Aeroplane and Automobile Museum welcome sign. The original Western Antique Aeroplane and Automobile Museum welcome sign out front of the museum. On May 9 we got the lettering on the old fuel truck applied. The WAAAM topper was put on the truck on August 23. The old sign was taken down on August 28. Enjoy our new way to welcome people to the Western Antique Aeroplane and Automobile Museum! Our original sign was a sign forged in necessity. It was nearly time to open the museum on September 7, 2007 and the newly minted Western Antique Aeroplane and Automobile Museum did not have a sign out by the road to welcome visitors. Instead of panic, Museum Founder Terry Brandt and the first acting Museum Director, Jeremy Young, devised a plan - they would recycle the sign that the construction company used when building the museum. They took the design company's logo down when construction had finished and put up WAAAM's logo in its place. It was only intended as a stop-gap measure but the sign was still in place nearly 6 years later.

The desire to change the sign had been simmering for a long time. WAAAM was growing exponentially and with that growth a new sign was needed. Judy Newman, the current Museum Director, had also wanted some kind of vehicle that could be driven though town with the WAAAM logo on it and the hours. She, along with others figured that it could be used as the sign when it wasn't driving out and about too.

Extensive work was put into an old Chevy fuel truck as the rig of choice. Rudy Zvarich was head of the team getting the truck back in working order. On May 9 the lettering when on the truck. Applying the sign to the top of the truck was tricky and took a while to plan and execute.

During this time a 1953 drive-in theatre marquee was donated to the museum. It was perfect for WAAAM's sign needs but was in need of a massive restoration so the push for the fuel truck to be finished was on. The addition of the WAAAM topper was finished on August 23. Finally after all of this work we put our temporary "replacement sign" out front on August 28.
